Australian rapper Iggy Azalea says she deals with the same problems and emotional heartbreak as everyone else on the planet.
The 23-year-old is internationally known for her music, but the star doesn’t accept notions her life is more glamorous than the average person’s.
Azalea considers herself no different than her fellow man.
“I mean, I think it doesn’t really matter what your job is. Everybody has the same s*** in their lives,” she told the Michigan Chronicle newspaper.
“You have a crappy day at work? I have a crappy day at work. You’re excited about something in your life, a birthday or your friend having a baby? I’m excited too. You broke up with your boyfriend? You’re sad? Same with me.
“Everybody – I think has the same fears of failure or happiness, of success or family problems, or going out and wanting to party or feeling good that you’ve reached a goal.”
Azalea, who is currently dating NBA athlete Nick Young, prefers to keep her affairs low-key.
She is completely disinterested in engaging with drama, especially with other hip hop musicians.
“I’ve never been a stereotypical MC. I like to think of rap as a more creative kind of outlet for me. I never really wanna be that MC that battles and has beefs,” she explained.
“I have too many other things that are actually important to worry about. Why add another thing? I want to wake up and be happy, I want to go to bed and be happy.”
Azalea’s debut album will be released on Monday. The New Classic features appearance from Rita Ora, Charli XCX and Mavado as well as her label boss and rapper T.I.
Her New Classic Tour of North America kicks off on Wednesday in Boston.
